What Toleah does. And why.
Every feature in Toleah has a reason. Here are the important ones — not as a list, but with the so-that.
Living with a food intolerance means making the same decision a hundred times a day. Toleah takes the research off your plate — in the one moment that counts: in front of the shelf, at the dinner table, while cooking. Everything described below works on the Free tier without a scan limit. Premium extends it where multiple profiles or long history matter.
The eight core features
-
Barcode scanner
Camera-based on iOS and Android, directly in the browser as a PWA, manual EAN entry as a fallback. From barcode to traffic-light in under a second. Example: you stand in front of a wall of chocolate bars — one scan per bar, and in ten seconds you've sorted three options.
-
Personalised scoring
Over 400 trigger definitions, eight intolerances, three severity levels, seven enzyme profiles, position weighting, cross-intolerance detection. No rigid "contains yes/no", just a number that fits you. Example: you take lactase with meals. Toleah adjusts your traffic-light for lactose-containing products dose-dependently — where the evidence supports it.
-
Family mode
Up to twenty profiles with their own intolerances, severities and enzymes. One scan shows you in parallel who in the family tolerates what. Example: kids' birthday, ice-cream options. Three of the invited friends have intolerances. One scan per flavour, four traffic-lights per scan.
-
Symptom diary
Short entries with time, symptom and intensity. Toleah links them automatically with the products you scanned and surfaces correlations across weeks. Example: you log bloating for three weeks. The dashboard shows: on five out of seven days something with sorbitol was on the menu two hours earlier.
-
Recipe book
Curated recipes, automatically scored against your profile. Filter by prep time, difficulty, tags (vegan, gluten-free, meal-prep). Example: you open the cookbook, filter by "quick" and only see recipes that come out green for you. No post-cooking disappointment.
-
Practitioner bridge
Share your symptom diary, scan history and shopping list selectively with your nutritionist or practitioner. Every share is audit-logged and revocable at any time. Example: before your quarterly appointment you unlock the last four weeks. Your practitioner spots the patterns, you talk about next steps instead of trying to remember last month.
-
Offline capability
Seven-day local cache, five-step API fallback cascade. The scanner works where the signal doesn't. Example: the hotel Wi-Fi drops during your breakfast run. Your latest scans stay available, new products are checked against the cache.
-
Seven languages
German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese — not only the UI. Trigger definitions are curated per language. Example: holiday in Italy. The ingredient list is Italian — Toleah recognises "latte intero" as readily as "whole milk".
